Advancing Pretrial Policy Research (APPR) Virtual Training #4: Measuring Performance

As we wrap up the final session of our APPR training series, we want to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude to all of you who attended and contributed to the success of this program. Your engagement and commitment to learning have been invaluable in making this training a meaningful experience.

Performance measures enable justice agencies to understand and evaluate the extent to which important pretrial goals, such as fairness, effectiveness, and efficiency, are being achieved more objectively. Common pretrial performance measures include, for example, a jurisdiction’s release rate, arrest-free rate, and court appearance rate. The benefits of good performance measures include evaluating new practices’ effectiveness, tracking changes over time, and communicating with all stakeholders, including the public and media. This course is designed to assist participants with increasing their capacity to use local data to understand better and improve their pretrial system. The course will also cover the importance of quality assurance and strategies to build sustainability using continuous learning and onboarding new staff.

Thank you again for your participation, and we look forward to seeing the positive changes that result from the work you are doing.

 Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the ways that data can help evaluate the effectiveness of their pretrial program
  • Identify and describe the most commonly used pretrial performance measures
  • Recognize strategies to build sustainability among existing and new staff
